Default SQL Agent F.A.Q.s

Some things to remember when backing up Microsoft SQL databases

UltraBac 9.2x currently supports the following versions of SQL:
SQL 2000 (includes MSDE/express versions) using TCP/IP connection
SQL 2005 (includes MSDE/express versions) using VDI connection
SQL 2008 (includes MSDE/express/SBS versions) using VSS connection

It is important to select the appropriate connection type depending on the version of SQL you are backing up. See attached screenshot.

You will need a full installation of UltraBac on both the backup server AND the SQL server.

It is important that you edit the SQL server list on both the backup server and the SQL server.

Remember to list the name of the SQL server with instance name, separated by a carrot "^" symbol if the SQL instance is a named instance.

To edit this list, navigate to manage\agents\SQL agent and choose the button labeled "edit server list."
