Default Special Preparation for Dell PowerEdge Restore?

I have created an image of a Dell PowerEdge 2850, with the desire to restore to a new hardware with resized partitions.

Is there anything special I need to do to prepare the server. Following the standard directions is not working. The formerly working test restore-to server now cannot locate boot media, etc. Just as when I rebuild a server do I have to re-do the initialization process for a new Dell PowerEdge? I'd like an authoritative answer if there is a link for people migrating old Dell hardware to a newer Dell server. If it matters this is Windows 2003. I have UBG 5 and 6.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

To answer your question, no there is no special setup specific to Dell servers prior to restoring an image to them.

Like with any other server restore, you will need to create any logical drives via the RAID controller (If applicable).

If your new server is not "seeing" the boot disk, then you may want to try and re-burn the iso and try again if booting from CD/DVD.
If you are booting from a network location, please ensure that you have network connectivity from within UBDR (ping network server hosting the .iso file). If you do not have network connectivity, please inject the appropriate NIC driver and try again.

The first partition is the Dell drivers and such. you need this set in advance before you do a restore. don't restore the Dell partition if you're trying to bare metal restore from unlike media. Just do the Windows partitions.

You do not need to restore the data contained in the utility partition, but unless you plan on changing the boot.ini, you will need to at least have the empty partition there as a place holder.
